Behind the Lens

Welcome! I'm Taylor of Taylor Clarke Photography, and I'm glad you stopped by my website and gallery.

Photography is one of my lifelong hobbies turned passion. It stemmed from my years in elementary and middle school, pre camera phones, when everyone carried around a compact digital camera to capture their memories and yes, even "selfies" were a thing back then. However, I always found myself wanting to take more interesting photos and often wandered around my family's farm for hours on end taking photos of ordinary things and trying to make them stand out. I decided to continue this hobby in high school and took two years of darkroom photography classes, where my passion for photography really began to flourish. For two years I used my family's old manual Canon camera and learned photography from the bottom up - developing my own film and processing my own photos using darkroom and chemical techniques. I'll be honest...it was tough work! I credit that experience completely for helping me fully understand and appreciate photography.

In 2013, I finally got my hands on a Canon DSLR and that's when I could really begin to stretch my legs. The rest, as they say, is history. For a long time, I continued to do photography completely for myself and as my own creative outlet, and then started to slowly branch out and take photos for family and friends. In 2016, I officially launched Taylor Clarke Photography in hopes to get out of my comfort zone and share my passion with the world. Coming from a strong agricultural and livestock background, many of my photos reflect that and animal/livestock photography still remains my heart and soul.

I was born and raised in Maryland, and currently reside on the Eastern Shore with my two dogs; Gambino, a Great Dane, and Mowgli, a Corgi. They are my absolute world and I don't know what I would do without them.

I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Communications, and still hold Knoxville and UT sports near and dear to my heart. Catch me cheering on the Vols (more like screaming at the tv) on college football Saturday's. Currently, I work full-time as a Communications Manager for a private yacht club. I love boating, fishing, and just being on the water in general so it's a pretty neat gig combining some of my favorite things!

Some more fun facts: I'm a dog person through and through, but I once had a 12-year-old Maine Coon cat named Hugh Hefner who was cooler than me - RIP Hughey! I quote The Office on a daily basis, apologies in advance. You are likely to rarely see me without an iced coffee in my hand - I run on Dunkin'. Johnny Cash is my hero. I love my vinyl record player and love collecting old vinyls - my favorite of my collection is Willie Nelson's "Stardust". Traveling the entire country in an airstream or RV is pretty high up on my bucket list - and stopping at all the weird little roadside attractions on the way.  Lastly but surely not least, I am a bit of a music snob, but I can put you on some good stuff if you let me.
